Originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Maya May is an LA-based stand-up comedian, writer, and community builder. She is the co-host of The Lincoln Project’s, We’re Speaking and the comedy/business podcast Very Important Business. She has a BA in Political Science from Grinnell College (yes, she lived in Iowa), an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Miami. Since moving back to the US in 2013 after eight years in Argentina, she has taken her unique perspective on American life to stages all over the country.
Her comedy is just like she is: a healthy balance of optimism and rage. Hopeful for a better future and furious enough to fight for it, Maya keeps audiences on their toes with jokes that combine her life experiences with observations on parenting, race, politics, class, and gender. In 2020, she headlined over 50 colleges for the Virtually There College Comedy Tour, which was featured on CNBC, Fox, ABC, and iHeartRadio.
